FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I have health insurance. Can Steps of Faith help me pay my deductible or out of pocket expenses for my prosthesis?
Unfortunately, no. We help uninsured and underinsured amputees with prosthetic expenses. While we understand that deductibles and out of pocket expenses can be very high, these are not expenses that Steps of Faith can help with. We recommend you speak with your prosthetist to discuss working out a payment plan for any out of pocket or deductible expenses. As a second option, we recommend looking into CareCredit.
Does Steps of Faith help amputees in countries outside of the United States?
No, not at this time. We recommend checking the Amputee Coalition of America website for potential international funding sources.
Does Steps of Faith help upper extremity amputees as well as lower extremity amputees?
Absolutely!
Is Steps of Faith a religious organization or directly affiliated with any religious organizations?
No, we are not. Steps of Faith is simply a common turn of phrase that illustrates what we do and how we empower those who need our help.
Do you accept donated prosthetic limbs?
At this time, we are not accepting limb donations. However, Limbs for Life and Penta both accept limb donations.
Do you have a peer support program?
We do not currently run our own peer support program. We recommend these organizations that have great databases of peer support programs in a city near you. We recommend Amputee Coalition of America and AMPOWER.
I am an amputee and I don’t need financial help with my prosthesis, but can Steps of Faith help me with other needs, such as rehabbing my home to become handicap accessible?
Unfortunately, no. We recommend visiting the Amputee Coalition of America website for possible resources.
Does Steps of Faith help veterans?
If we ever were asked to help veterans, we would in an instant! While veterans are a very visible population of amputees, they make up less than half of 1% of the amputee population in the United States. About 500 people lose a limb every day in the United States, and since September 11th, 2001, there have been just over 1500 combat-related amputations. So that number is quite low based on how many lose a limb daily for other reasons. Also, if you are one of those veteran amputees, thankfully the government covers those prosthetic care expenses. Does Steps of Faith help children?
If we were ever asked to help children, we would in an instant! Fortunately, children are typically covered by the Shriners organization, parents that have policies for their children, etc.
